FAQ

HOW DO I JOIN AN ONLINE CLASS?

Simply book yourself a spot in the class of your choice on the booking page. You'll receive a confirmation email, followed by Zoom details either via email or message. Then, on the day of your class...
1. Sign in to the Zoom meeting 5 mins before class start time (you'll be admitted from the 'waiting room')
2. Make sure your WiFi connection is as strong as possible for the best experience.
3. Join with audio but pop your microphone on mute throughout class.
4. It's totally your choice whether to have your camera on or off, whatever you're more comfortable with.
5. Please ask questions during the class using the ‘chat’ option, to let us know how you're getting on or if there's anything you need clarifying/repeating.
6. Enjoy yourself! This is a chance to completely let loose and have a sweaty giggle in a 100% judgement free zone!

I HAVE TWO LEFT FEET, DO I NEED TO BE A DANCER?

No! Complete dance beginners are warmly welcomed and encouraged. No dance experience necessary. Our classes attract people with a wide range of ability levels and dance experience, and everyone can benefit. A sense of rhythm and co-ordination is a definite advantage, but we encourage everyone to take class at a pace they are comfortable with. It's really important to us that every class member knows they are in a safe space, where they can let go of worries, stresses and pressures, making room to explore and express even the most forgotten parts of themselves freely and without judgement. We never perform in small groups or draw focus to any individual. Corrections are offered only when someone asks for them. We are not aiming to create a professional looking show number, it's all about working your brain and body whilst feeling really brilliant about yourself. Zero pressure.

IS IT A DANCE CLASS OR A FITNESS CLASS?

Both! As we all know, dance is a great form of exercise and most people who attend our classes do so because they like to keep fit and active but aren't keen on the gym. Our classes start with a dance style warm up, including cardio/aerobic, toning/strengthening and isolations/stretch. We then learn a section of bespoke choreography to a song from a musical. The routines are specifically designed to reflect the style of the show whilst giving you a great workout. Without a single burpee, plank or press up in sight, class members are burning 350 - 600 calories on average per class. So, it's a dance class with huge fitness benefits.

WHICH MUSICALS CAN WE EXPECT TO DANCE TO?

Since launching in February 2019 we have created a repertoire of over 60 dance routines! However, we are constantly choreographing new material and always take suggestions and requests so do let us know if your favourite show isn't on the list...

Aladdin, All Shook Up, Anything Goes, Billy Elliot, Cabaret, Cats, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Chicago, Chorus line, Copacabana, Dirty Dancing, Dreamgirls, Elf, Everybody's Talking About Jamie, Fame, Footloose, Grease, Greatest Showman, Guys & Dolls, Hairspray, Hamilton, In The Heights, Kinky Boots, Kiss Me Kate, La La Land, Legally Blonde, Lion King, Mamma Mia, Mary Poppins, Matilda, Moulin Rouge, Newsies, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Rent, Saturday Night Fever, Sister Act, Smash, Six, Sweet Charity, The Bodyguard, The Wiz, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Thriller LIVE, Tina The Musical, Top Hat, We Will Rock You, West Side Story, Wicked.

CAN I TRIAL A CLASS?

Online: We have paused our free trial policy for online classes but one-off, PAYG bookings are available.

In-Person: You can and we think it's a really good idea before you commit to a course booking. However, it does just rely on there being space. If you'd like to come along for a taster, get in touch and we'll do our best to sort it.

DO YOU OFFER PAY-AS-YOU-GO?

Online: Yep! All ready for you on the booking page.

In-Person: We do, unless our courses are fully booked. On the morning of the first class of a new course, any remaining spaces are released for PAYG booking at £15 per class. We do encourage commitment, which is why we run short courses in blocks of 6 weeks at a time. We know life can get in the way though, which is why we offer 'Send-A-Friend' policy for course members, allowing you to send a pal along to class rather than let it go to waste. It is, therefore, much more cost effective to make a course booking rather than PAYG, even if you miss 1 or 2 classes.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT TO CLASS?

Most importantly, we will miss you! But we know it happens sometimes... so, there are a few options...
1. Attend another class. If you can get to one of the other classes on our timetable, drop us a message and we'll let you know if there is space.
2. 'Send-A-Friend'. Rather than let your booking go to waste, send someone along in your place. We much prefer a full class than to keep your money while you miss out, plus it helps us to spread the West End Workout love and joy! Whether you gift the place or ask your pal to pay up is totally your choice, but you will be responsible for any exchange of monies agreed. All bookings are non-refundable, unless we have to cancel class for any reason.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?

Over 18 with no upper age limit. Our classes are energetic but they attract a huge age range as there's something in it for everyone. Plenty of modifications are offered to either simplify or challenge where appropriate. We have lots of mums and daughters dancing together in the same class, which is gorgeous to see. As long as you have some energy and vitality, 'I'm no spring chicken' is no longer a reason to stay away - get involved!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Anything you are comfortable moving and getting warm in. Standard outfits are leggings/shorts with a t-shirt/vest and trainers. To make it even easier, grab yourself some West End Workout branded clothing from our online shop! Opens seasonally so keep your eyes peeled for new product launches...

ARE MEN WELCOME?

Yes! We do have some, but not many, men attending classes and we really wish more would join us. This class is for everyone - we all love a musical!

WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE MUSICALS?

This is probably not the class for you! Perhaps Zumba is more your thing?!

I CAN'T GET A BABYSITTER, CAN MY CHILDREN WATCH CLASS?

Online: Of course - there have to be some benefits of dancing at home on a screen! They are totally welcome to join in too if you're up for a family boogie.

In-Person: We hear you, it can be tricky, but this is an hour completely dedicated to YOU. We love seeing our class members switch off from responsibilities, to-do lists, life worries, and escape into a world of dance with complete abandon. We love kids, but unfortunately we do not allow them to watch class. One-off allowances may be made if we have scheduled a class which clashes with school holidays, depending on your child's age and the venue suitability.

WHAT IF I'M INJURED OR HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION?

You should seek advice from your doctor or health care professional to determine whether this class is safe and appropriate for you. It is really important that you're in good health for class so we strongly recommend that your wellness takes priority. Please inform the teacher before the start of class if you have any minor injuries or concerns so that we can be mindful and offer modifications as necessary.

CAN I TAKE PART IF I'M PREGNANT?

Prenatal exercise can offer loads of health benefits, but pregnancy affects women differently so we recommend you seek advice from your health care professional to get the go-ahead. We don't perform any abdominal crunches, exercises laying down flat or on the floor at all. Give us a shout if you'd like to know more about the class content or if you have any other questions. If you have been given the all clear to join us, please ensure the teacher is made aware of your pregnancy, including how many weeks.

CAN I VIDEO THE CLASS?

We know our class members love to practise and show off their newly learnt routines to family and friends. We often have requests for videos of the routines to use for reference. Unfortunately, due to GDPR and Copyright limitations, we are unable to allow filming of classes. But also, the magic of the 'here and now' is something we strongly believe in and would like to uphold. On occasion, your teacher may need to video a class routine in order to archive a record of our choreography, but in this instance, permission is asked prior to filming, the option to step out is offered and videos are strictly viewed only by the West End Workout teaching team.

DO CLASSES STOP DURING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS?

Yes. Our courses are structured to follow school term dates, pausing for half terms, Easter and Christmas holidays. However, we do continue running classes through the summer if there is enough demand.

IS IT TRUE THERE ARE SOCIAL EVENTS?

It's true! One of the many things our members love about our classes is our warm, welcoming atmosphere and the new friends made. So, to help these brilliant new friendships blossom, we organise regular events and socials including causal drinks after class, occasion parties and group theatre trips! Some events are for specific classes only, and others are for everyone. Head over to the 'EVENTS' page to check out what's coming up and pop it in the diary...
